Large Blue Green Luise Harkort Bowl for Velten Vordamm
Large Blue Green Luise Harkort Bowl for Velten Vordamm
This is an unusual find. It is really timeless despite being from the 1920s. Luise Harkort was a German designer, a member of the Werkbund which was a group of designers inspired by the philosophy of John Ruskin to bring an arts and crafts ethos to production ceramics.
Luise also worked with Theodor Bogler who trained at the Bauhaus and had a great influence on her work.
It is a three footed dish with an elegantly curved rim. It is perfect either for ikebana insipred designs or for floating flowers. Her bright enamel glazes were inspired by 18th century faience ceramics.
This dish has a “foreign” mark which means it was exported. Most of their export ware went to the USA which is why it is rare in the UK.
